Marking the 20th anniversary of one of its best-selling designs, B&B Italia introduces Tufty-Time 20: a contemporary evolution of the iconic Tufty-Time sofa system designed by Patricia Urquiola. First launched in 2005, Tufty-Time redefined comfort and modularity, merging the spirit of Chesterfield and capitonné traditions with a relaxed, modern lifestyle.
The system has been reinterpreted while preserving its defining qualities — modularity, enveloping comfort, and flexibility. Volumes have been refined, with redesigned padding and an increased seat height to deliver enhanced comfort. The internal structure has also been updated with a sustainable end-of-life approach, incorporating from the outset the possibility of complete disassembly.
A key development is the introduction of a curved module, which expands the system’s design language and opens up new possibilities for more fluid, convivial settings.
The Tufty-Time 20 seating system is composed of 14 modules, enabling versatile, curvilinear compositions. The curved module represents a major innovation, allowing for organic layouts that are particularly suited to both residential and contract environments (such as hotels and offices) where face-to-face interaction and a sense of conviviality are encouraged.
The new structure offers an especially inviting seating experience, enhanced by generous padding made from recycled polyester positioned between polyurethane and fabric. This construction delivers a softer, more cushioned feel, while the slightly raised seat height further improves overall comfort.
Circularity is central to the design of Tufty-Time 20. Engineered to be fully disassemblable, the system ensures that all components and materials can be recovered and given a second life at the end of the product’s life cycle. With a high circularity index, Tufty-Time 20 reinforces B&B Italia’s commitment to the circular economy and responsible environmental practices.
Tufty-Time 20 also debuts an exclusive new upholstery: a wool chenille fabric with a bouclé effect, adding a refined tactile dimension to the collection. Complementing the seating system are new coffee tables, crafted entirely from oak wood or featuring oak frames paired with tops in brill anodised aluminium. Available in multiple sizes, the range includes a version designed to fit seamlessly between the sofa’s modular elements.
With Tufty-Time 20, this iconic modular’s latest iteration proves its relevance for both today’s living spaces and those of tomorrow.
